Dr. Susan Bissett is the president of the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute, Inc. a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Charleston, West Virginia with the mission of reducing overdose deaths in the State. Formerly the Assistant Dean at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy, Bissett is a public health advocate with roots in both higher education and health education. Susan co-created a state-wide public health campaign, “Don’t Keep Rx Around™” designed to educate persons about safe medication use and disposal. She has also implemented and developed opioid prescription and medication safety programs aimed to educate young people and the public about the dangers of prescription and illicit drug use/misuse. Dr. Bissett has written over 100 articles to date with her most recent publications focusing on harm reduction, prevention programming, medication safety, and increasing the pipeline of health care professionals in Appalachia.
